## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE LANDING N5142U AT KSIF ON AUGUST 02, 2015, AT APPROXIMATELY 1526 LCL, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ENCOUNTERED A THERMAL/GUST OF WIND WHICH LIFTED THE RIGHT WING CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO TOUCHDOWN ON THE LEFT MAIN GEAR OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 31. THIS HARD LANDING ON THE LEFT MAIN CAUSED THE PILOTS FOOT TO WEDGE AGAINST THE THROTTLE, ACCELERATING THE AIRCRAFT ALONG THE LEFT SIDE OF RUNWAY 31 UNTIL THE TERRAIN CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO INVERT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A REST IN A GRASSY AREA ALONGSIDE RUNWAY 31 AT SHILOH AIRPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA15CA212](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA15CA212), Aug 2, 2015: Main Air Rapier (N5142U), Reidsville, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot landed with variable wind conditions, which resulted in an in-flight loss of control and subsequent impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
