## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PIC^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS TEST FLYING A NEW ENGINE CONFIGURATION.

DURING CLIMB OUT THE PIC REPORTED AN UNCOMMANDED ROLE BACK OF POWER.

THE PIC TURNED 180 DEGREES BACK TO THE RUNWAY BUT LANDED SHORT IN A GRASSY AREA INSIDE THE AIRPORT PERIMETER FENCE WHERE THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON ITS BACK.

CLOSER INSPECTION OF THE MOTOR SHOWED NO CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE ROLE BACK OF POWER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR15LA235](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR15LA235), Aug 7, 2015: Cleveland Allan B Nieuport 11# (N917AB), Bellingham, WA, substantial damage. Probable cause: A partial loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination revealed no mechanical malfunctions or anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
