## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON FIRST ATTEMPT TO LAND AT PRIVATE AIRFIELD AIRCRAFT CRASHED IN NEAR VERTICAL ATTITUDE SHORT OF RUNWAY ON THE SIDE OF A BERM. THE AIRCRAFT CAUGHT FIRE AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY DESTROYED. AIRCRAFT DAMAGE AND WITNESS MARKS ON THE GROUND INDICATE THE AIRCRAFT WAS UNDER POWER WITH MINIMAL AIRSPEED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15FA298](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15FA298), Aug 7, 2015: Mchugh Tony Kitfox Model 1 (N428YT), Montrose, PA, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane during final approach, which resulted in the airplane's wing exceeding its critical angle-of-attack and a subsequent aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
