## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT DEPARTED PHOENIX DEER VALLEY (DVT) AIRPORT FOR IFR FLIGHT TO HESPERIA (L26)AIRPORT. PILOT CONTACTED ALBUQUERQUE ARTCC FOR IFR INSTRUCTIONS.

READ-BACK WAS THE LAST 2 WAY COMMUNICATION FROM THE PILOT. THE AIRCRAFT CLIMBED TO FL250 AND TRANSITIONED THROUGH LOS ANGELES AND OAKLAND ARTCC AIRSPACE BEFORE HEADING OUT OVER THE PACIFIC OCEAN. MILITARY JETS WERE SCRAMBLED AND REPORTED THAT THE PILOT APPEARED TO BE SLUMPED FORWARD. EFFORTS WERE MADE TO CONTACT THE PILOT BUT HE REMAINED UNRESPONSIVE. AT 10:37 PM, PDT AND 490 MILES WEST OF SAN FRANSISCO, THE AIRCRAFT EXHAUSTED IT'S FUEL SUPPLY AND CRASHED INTO THE PACIFIC OCEAN. 1 POB, PRESUMED FATAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR15LA242](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR15LA242), Aug 14, 2015: Bartels Lancair (N427LE), Pacific Ocean (Pacific Ocean), destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's incapacitation for reasons that could not be determined because the airplane was not recovered from the ocean.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
