## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE HIGH-WING, LIGHT SPORT AIRCRAFT WITH STUDENT AND INSTRUCTOR PILOTS WERE CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF ON DTO RUNWAY 18. THE WINDS WERE 090 AT 8 KNOTS. THE STUDENT APPLIED FULL LEFT AILERON TO COUNTERACT THE LEFT DIRECT CROSSWIND ON TAKEOFF. THE STUDENT PILOT ROTATED AT 60 KNOTS, 5 KNOTS ABOVE THE NORMAL ROTATION SPEED IN ORDER TO COMPENSATE FOR THE CROSSWIND.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE GROUND, THE AIRCRAFT ?VEERED HARD RIGHT.? THE STUDENT APPLIED LEFT AILERON, AGAIN BUT THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO THE RIGHT AND BEGAN TO LOSE ALTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED ON THE RUNWAY IN A RIGHT WING LOW ATTITUDE, WITH THE RIGHT WINGTIP CONTACTING THE RUNWAY. THE STUDENT REDUCED POWER TO TRY TO STAY ON THE GROUND, BUT IMMEDIATELY APPLIED POWER AS THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED BACK UP INTO THE AIR.. AT THIS POINT, THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK THE CONTROLS AND WAS ABLE TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN THE GRASS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
