## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON AUGUST 28, 2015, AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 LOCAL TIME, A PIPER PA-24-250 COMANCHE, N5498P, RAN OFF THE RUNWAY AND INTO AN ADJACENT CORNFIELD AT FAIRPLAINS AIRPARK (02MI). THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO PILOT AND PASSENGERS. THE AIRCRAFT OPERATED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF 14 CODE OF FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 91 AS A PERSONAL FLIGHT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED OR REQUIRED. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHEN THE PILOT'S APPROACH TO LAND WAS TOO HIGH AND FAST. THE 2000' GRASS STRIP WAS WET WITH MORNING DEW. THE PILOT LANDED LONG AND CHOSE NOT TO PERFORM A GO AROUND BECAUSE OF TALL TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT INSTEAD STEERED THE AIRCRAFT TO AVOID THE TREES AND INTO AN ADJACENT CORNFIELD. INVESTIGATION OF PILOT IS ONGOING. THIS REPORT MAY BE AMENDED AT A FUTURE DATE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
