## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THIS WAS A LOCAL TRAINING FLIGHT FOR AIRCRAFT FAMILIARIZATION. THE PIC IN THE BACK SEAT WAS PROVIDING INSTRUCTION FOR THE PILOT IN THE FRONT SEAT. THE PIC ALLOWED THE PILOT FLYING TO ENTER A HIGH SINK RATE APPROACHING THE FLARE. THE PIC TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT TO INITIATE A GO AROUND, BUT THE AIRCRAFT LANDED HARD ON THE TAILWHEEL, BREAKING IT OFF, AND CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE MAIN GEAR STRUTS AND AIRFRAME STRUCTURE. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF OF THE RUNWAY TOWARD A CONCRETE DITCH. THE PIC ADDED POWER TO AVOID THE DITCH AND THE AIRCRAFT SETTLED ONTO THE GRASS. NORMAL EGRESS WAS ACCOMPLISHED WITH NO INJURIES.
