## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING CRUISE FLIGHT FROM LEESBURG, WEST VIRGINIA ENROUTE TO CLEARVIEW MARYLAND, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A ROUGH RUNNING ENGINE WITH THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE GAUGE IN THE NORMAL RANGE, AND OIL PRESSURE GAUGE IN THE NORMAL RANGE. SOON AFTER, A SLAPPING NOISE DEVELOPED AND THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE STOPPED OPERATING. WITH NO ENGINE POWER, THE PILOT EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY PROCEDURE, AND LANDED IN A CORN FIELD. UPON LANDING, THE NOSE GEAR BROKE AND THE NOSE WHEEL SEPARATED FROM THE

ASSEMBLY. THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER ON ITS BACK. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT BEING INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA15LA368](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA15LA368), Sep 19, 2015: Cessna 150M (N714CW), Mount Airy, MD, substantial damage. Probable cause: The in-flight fatigue failure of the No. 4 cylinder barrel, which resulted in a total loss of engine power.

## Other reports on N714CW (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19910920046239I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910920046239I), Sep 20, 1991: Cessna 150M (N714CW), Huntsville, AL. Carburetor heater hose broke. Resulted in carburetor icing. Engine stalled. Forced landing in field.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
