## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

CFII WAS PROVIDING NIGHT FLIGHT INSTRUCTION AT THE MMV AIRPORT TO A STUDENT PILOT WHO DID NOT HAVE NIGHT FLIGHT ENDORSEMENTS OR SOLO ENDORSEMENT IN CE-172 . THE STUDENT WAS APPROACHING RWY 22 FOR TOUCH AND GO PRACTICE, AND WAS ALLOWED TO DESCEND ON THE PAPI UNTIL ALL FOUR LIGHTS SHOWED RED. THE CFI DID NOT TAKE THE CONTROLS BACK FROM THE STUDENT OR REQUIRE FLIGHT PATH CORRECTIONS, AND THE AIRPLANE STRUCK THE RUNWAY END LIGHT AT THE APPROACH END OF RWY 22 JUST BEFORE TOUCH DOWN.

AFTER THE IMPACT, THE INSTRUCTOR TAXIED TO THE RAMP AND FOUND THE RH MLG STRUT FAIRING HAD BEEN DAMAGED BY IMPACTING THE LIGHT. HE REPORTED DOING A "CURSORY" INSPECTION OF THE LOWER FUSELAGE OF THE AIRCRAFT FOR OTHER DAMAGE, CONTACTED THE FLIGHT SCHOOL OWNER, AND TOLD THE OWNER THAT NO OTHER DAMAGE HAD BEEN FOUND THAN A BENT RH MLG FAIRING. CFI THEN FLEW THE AIRPLANE TO AURORA AIRPORT (UAO) WITH THE STUDENT ON BOARD WITH NO FURTHER INCIDENT.

WHEN DISCOVERED THE NEXT DAY BY THE FLIGHT SCHOOL OWNER, IN ADDITION TO DAMAGE TO THE RH MLG STRUT FAIRING, DAMAGE WAS FOUND TO THE LEADING EDGE OF THE RH HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. CLOSE UP INSPECTION FOUND SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE HAD BEEN INCURRED TO THE RH HORIZONTAL STABLIZER SPAR, WHICH HAD BEEN BENT BY IMPACT AT THE LOWER EDGE APPROXIMATELY 1 FOOT OUTBOARD OF THE CENTER SECTION.
