## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTING RED OAK, IA (RDK) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO VIBRATE AND THE ENGINE FUEL FLOW WAS DIMINISHING RAPIDLY. THE PILOT TURNED THE AIRCRAFT BACK TOWARD RDK WITH MINIMAL POWER AND LOSING ALTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN APPROXIMATELY 6 MILES SOUTHWEST OF RDK IN A BEAN FIELD. DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT THE AIRCRAFT WENT APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET INTO A STANDING FIELD OF CORN AND CAME TO A STOP FACING A FIELD TERRACE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16LA032](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16LA032), Oct 8, 2015: Cessna 177RG (N1542H), Red Oak, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The improper torque of the engine’s No. 3 cylinder intake pipe bolts, which resulted in the separation of the pipe and a partial loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
