## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACCORDING TO PILOT'S STATEMENT, HE WAS LANDING ON RUNWAY 22 WITH WINDS AT 170 DEGREES. HE STATED THAT WHILE ABOUT 25 FEET ABOVE THE NUMBERS FOR RUNWAY 22, THE WIND WAS CAUSING HIM TO SINK FASTER THAN HE HAD WANTED TO SO HE ADDED POWER. HE THEN NOTICED THAT HE WAS DRIFTING TOWARDS THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY AND ADDED FULL POWER TO INITIATE A GO-AROUND. A GUST OF WIND CAME UP AND CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO STRIKE THE GROUND WITH THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR WHICH THEN BROKE FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT SPUN ON THE GROUND AND STOPPED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA019](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA019), Oct 11, 2015: Maule M 7-235C (N3180G), Mankato, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the go-around, which resulted in a collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
