## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE LANDING PHASE THE PILOT STATED THAT HE SWITCHED FROM THE RIGHT TO LEFT FUEL TANK AND MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY GONE ALL THE WAY TO THE OFF POSITION. ON THE FINAL APPROACH PHASE OF THE FLIGHT PILOT STATED THAT THE ENGINE STARTED TO LOSE POWER. AIRCRAFT HIT THE 400 AND 200 FOOT APPROACH LIGHTING SYSTEM. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN THE GRASS APPROXIMATELY 150-175 FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. MAIN LANDING GEAR RIPPED OFF WHEN AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE WING , HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, TAIL CONE, AND PROPELLER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16CA011](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16CA011), Oct 13, 2015: Piper PA-32RT-300T (N300KG), Salisbury, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent switching of the fuel selector to the "off" position on final approach, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
