## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT WERE IN LEVEL FLIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 2500 FEET AND ABOUT TO BEGIN PRACTICING STALLS WHEN THEY HEARD A LOUD BANG. OIL SPATTERED THE WINDSHIELD. THE INSTRUCTOR PILOT EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON THE BEACH BELOW THE TRAINING AREA. THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AFTER LANDING. INVESTIGATION SHOWED TWO HOLES IN THE ENGINE CASE. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED A BROKEN CONNECTING ROD BOLT WHICH CAUSED THE PISTON ROD TO PENETRATE THE ENGINE CRANK CASE AND ENGINE FAILURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
