## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT, A CIVIL AIR PATROL MEMBER, WAS COMPLETING SOME NIGHT CURRENCY. HE STATED HE LANDED ON RWY 23L AND THE CONTROLLER INSTRUCTED HIM TO GIVE WAY TO A CITATION TAXIING FROM R5. THE PILOT TOOK HIS EYES OFF THE CENTERLINE AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT ON A7. HE RAN INTO THE GRASS AND HELD THE ELEVATOR FULL AFT. THE RUDDER WAS DAMAGED IN CONTACT WITH THE TERRAIN AND HE TAXIIED TO R6 AFTER GETTING BACK ON THE PAVEMENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA052](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA052), Nov 5, 2015: Cessna 172S (N905CP), Alcoa, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to identify the taxiway, which resulted in a runway excursion and impact with terrain while turning off the runway at night.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
