## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT JUST PAST KAVL AT 11,500 MSL, THE PILOT NOTICED THE AIRSPEED BEGAN TO DECREASE FROM PREVIOUSLY MAINTAINED 170 TAS. ONCE THE SPEED DECREASED TO 105 TAS, THE PILOT APPLIED MORE POWER WHICH HAD LITTLE EFFECT ON AIRSPEED AND THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN ROUGH AND VARIABLE. AN ATTEMPTED APPROACH TO THE NEAREST AIRPORT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL DUE TO A STRONG HEADWIND AND THE CIRRUS AIRFRAME PARACHUTE WAS DEPLOYED. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION IN AN OPEN FIELD APPROXIMATELY 0.6 MILES NORTH EAST OF KGEV.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16LA040](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16LA040), Nov 13, 2015: Cirrus Design SR22 (N334CM), Jefferson, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined during a postaccident test run of the engine.

## Other reports on N334CM (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20130625012719I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20130625012719I), Jun 25, 2013: Cirrus Design Corp SR22 (N334CM), Carrolton, GA, No damage. Aircraft experienced total electrical failure. Diverted to nearest airport, ctj, landed without incident.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
