## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 24, 2015, A CESSNA 182D, S/N 18253383, N8983X, PILOTED BY ^MR. JEFFREY LYNN STEINKE^, STUDENT PILOT CERTIFICATE NUMBER ^GX-1536817^, DEPARTED THE STUDENT PILOT'S PRIVATE GRASS STRIP 1 MILE SOUTH OF HAMLET, NEBRASKA. THE STUDENT PILOT WAS ON A TRAINING FLIGHT ORIGINATING FROM HIS STRIP, DIRECT MCCOOK (MCK) NEBRASKA, DIRECT IMPERIAL (IML), RETURNING BACK TO HIS PRIVATE STRIP. AT APPROXIMATELY 1515 MOUNTAIN STANDARD TIME THE AIRCRAFT LANDED, IMPACTED THE GRASS STRIP, AND BOUNCED. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO FLOAT DOWN THE GRASS STRIP. ON SECOND CONTACT WITH THE GRASS STRIP, DIRECTIONAL CONTROL WAS LOST AND THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GRASS STRIP, MAKING CONTACT WITH A DITCH. THE AIRCRAFT NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO COME TO REST ON ITS TOP. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE PILOT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE MCCOOK HOSPITAL FOR PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES. MINOR BRUISING WAS OBTAINED FROM THE AIRCRAFT SEAT BELT AND HARNESS. NO OTHER INJURIES REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA063), Nov 24, 2015: Cessna 182D (N8983X), Hamlet, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's incorrect brake application which resulted in a runway excursion and a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
