ON NOVEMBER 27, 2015, A STEARMAN, N53488, ^OWNED AND OPERATED BY JEFF CHORMAN^, DEPARTED A PRIVATE FIELD FOR A SHORT TRIP TO CHORMAN FIELD (D74), GREENWOOD, DE. HIS FATHER-IN-LAW, A PRIVATE PILOT, WAS ALSO ON BOARD. A WEATHER BRIEFING WAS NOT OBTAINED, BUT THE PILOT DID OBTAIN GEORGETOWN, DE (GED) AWOS. WINDS WERE LIGHT, BUT FAVORED RUNWAY 16, ACCORDING TO INTERVIEW WITH ^MR. CHORMAN^. N53488 ENTERED THE PATTERN AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 16 WITH NO ISSUES. THIS RUNWAY IS 3588 FEET LONG. 16 DOES NOT HAVE A DISPLACED THRESHOLD. THIS AIRCRAFT DOES NOT HAVE A RADIO. AS THIS AIRCRAFT WAS IN THE PATTERN ANOTHER AIRCRAFT, MOONEY M20J, N201HK, BASED AT D74, WAS ENTERING FOR THE OPPOSITE RUNWAY, 34. THIS PILOT HAD OBTAINED AN ABBREVIATED WEATHER BRIEFING AND WAS ON A LOCAL FLIGHT. THE MOONEY LANDED ON RUNWAY 34 AND WAS ROLLING OUT WHEN HE NOTICED THE STEARMAN ROLLING DOWN THE OPPOSITE RUNWAY AND WHEN HE REALIZED THAT THE STEARMAN DID NOT SEE HIM, HE APPLIED FULL BRAKES, SKIDDED ON RUNWAY AND STOPPED. THE STEARMAN WAS ON A THREE POINT ROLLOUT AND CONTINUED TO ROLL DOWN RUNWAY 16, THE MOONEY TRIED TO ADD POWER TO MOVE OFF THE RUNWAY, BUT IT WAS TOO LATE. THE TWO AIRCRAFT STUCK, APPROXIMATELY 1286 FEET FROM APPROACH END OF RUNWAY 34. THE STEARMAN'S LOWER RIGHT WING AND PROP STUCK THE MOONYE'S RIGHT WING, RIGHT SIDE OF FUSELAGE, JUST BEHIND BAGGAGE DOOR AND EMPENNAGE. THE MOONEY'S EMPENNAGE WAS BENT TO THE LEFT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE MOONEY RIGHT WING, FUSELAGE AND EMPENNAGE. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO LOWER LEFT WING OF STEARMAN AND A PROP STRIKE. THE AIRCRAFT WERE MOVED AND TOWED INTO PROSPECTIVE HANGERS. THERE WERE FOUR WITNESSES TO THIS ACCIDENT. THE STEARMAN PASSENGER, TWO PEOPLE ON THE GROUND, THEY WERE WORKERS FOR CHORMAN AND THE OTHER WAS A PILOT FLYING WITH HIS FAMILY AND LANDING AT D74. STATEMENTS OBTAINED AND INTERVIEWS COMPLETED. ALL WITNESSES DID STATE THAT THEY BELIEVED THE FAVORED RUNWAY SHOULD HAVE BEEN 16.
