## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT IN COMMAND OF N50VM, A BEECHCRAFT BE-390 AIRCRAFT, DEPARTED MONMOUTH EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (KBLM), NEW JERSEY TRAVELING TO CHICAGO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT (KPWK), ILLINOIS ON DECEMBER 10, 2015. A SECOND PILOT, WHO IS THE HOLDER OF AN AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOT CERTIFICATE AND TYPE RATED IN THE AIRCRAFT OCCUPIED THE RIGHT SEAT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PIC RECEIVED A WEATHER BRIEFING FROM FLIGHT SERVICE BEFORE DEPARTING KBLM.

WHEN APPROACHING KPWK, THE WINDS WERE REPORTING A DIRECTION OF 250 AT A SPEED OF 16 KNOTS GUSTING TO 33 KNOTS. APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET ABOVE RUNWAY 16, THE PIC ENCOUNTERED A GUST OF WIND AND TEMPORARILY LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT. A GO-AROUND MANEUVER WAS EXECUTED. DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING OF THE AIRCRAFT INDICATES THAT DURING THE GO-AROUND, THE LEFT WING STRUCK THE PAVEMENT OF RUNWAY 16. THE PIC DECIDED TO CONTINUE THE GO-AROUND. THE SECOND PILOT TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND ATTEMPTED A LANDING ON RUNWAY 30 AT KPWK.

UPON TOUCHDOWN ON RUNWAY 30, THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF CENTERLINE, DEPARTED THE PAVEMENT OF RUNWAY 30 AND STRUCK A RUNWAY LIGHT WITH THE RIGHT WING. DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED OF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND RIGHT WING SPAR IS CONSISTENT WITH DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR TO AN AIRCRAFT RUNNING OFF A RUNWAY. THE SECOND PILOT SAID HE WAS ABLE TO BRING THE AIRCRAFT BACK ONTO THE PAVEMENT OF TAXIWAY BRAVO AND CLEARED THE RUNWAY ENVIRONMENT. THE AIRCRAFT ENTERED THE BRAVO TAXIWAY WITH THE RIGHT MAIN TIRE IN THE GRASS AND BOTH PILOTS STATED THAT IT FELT AS IF THE AIRCRAFT WERE WAS RUNNING OVER A CURB.

NO INJURIES TO THE PASSENGERS OR CREW WERE REPORTED IN THE ACCIDENT.

THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR AS WELL AS THE LEFT WING AND SPAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16LA086](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16LA086), Dec 10, 2015: Hawker Beechcraft 390 (N50VM), Wheeling, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots' decision to conduct an approach and landing in gusting wind conditions, and their failure to maintain control of the airplane during the first approach, which resulted in a wing strike.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
