## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

^MR. COLLINS^ STATED HE WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT AND ITS PIC AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS TO SCATTER THE ASHES OF A DECEASED PILOT / FRIEND. THE BAG OF ASHES BEGAN TO COME APART. THE PIC LET GO OF THE STICK TO TRY AND CONTAIN THE ASHES. THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT DROPPED AND THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND. THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR BENT AND BROKE ON THE FIRST IMPACT, THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED, AND CAME DOWN BREAKING THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR FROM THE AIRCRAFT ON THE SECOND IMPACT. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE AIRCRAFT'S FIREWALL HAD BEEN BENT BY THE IMPACTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA082](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA082), Dec 13, 2015: Aeronca 7BCM (N1316V), Reidsville, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of pitch control while maneuvering at low altitude, which resulted in a collision with terrain, a left main landing gear collapse, and runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
