## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 2016AT APPROXIMATELY 10:36 MST, ERCOUPE N87405 WAS DEPARTING FROM RUNWAY 12. FLIGHT CONTROL WAS LOST, THE AIRCRAFT'S LEFT WING CONTACTED THE GROUND, AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON ITS NOSE AND LEFT WING, OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA105](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA105), Jan 13, 2016: Engineering & Research Ercoupe 415 (N87405), Chappell, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inability to correct for a crosswind during the takeoff roll due to the interlinked flight control design, which resulted in a runway excursion, and a collision with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
