## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON WEDNESDAY JANUARY 20, 2016, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS ON HIS INSTRUMENT CHECK RIDE AT MERITT ISLAND AIRPORT (COI). UPON COMPLETING ALL REQUIRED PRE-FLIGHT CHECKS, BEGAN TAXIING DOWN TAXIWAY A2. HE BEGAN TO REDUCE SPEED TO HOLD SHORT OF RUNWAY 29, THEN APPLIED HIS BRAKES AND REALIZED THE LEFT BRAKE WAS UNRESPONSIVE, HE ASKED THE INSTRUCTOR (^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^)TO ASSIST, AND HE TOO WAS UNABLE TO ENGAGE THE LEFT BRAKE. IT WAS AT THAT TIME THE AIRCRAFT VEERED RIGHT, OFF THE TAXIWAY AND STRUCK AN AIRPORT TAXI LIGHT, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO BOTH THE TAXI LIGHT AND PROPELLER.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
