## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT APPROXIMATELY 1800 HRS. THE PILOT DEPARTED SKY HARBOR AIRPORT (PHX) TO THE SOUTH AFTER GRANTED CLEARANCE FOR A SOUTH DEPARTURE FROM ATC. AFTER CHECKING THE FUEL AND COMPLETING THE DEPARTURE CHECKLIST FOR TAKEOFF , LISTENING TO WEATHER AND SETTING THE BARO ALTIMETER HE STARTED A NORMAL HOVER TO TAKE OFF. AFTER OBTAINING 1500 FEET ON THE BARO ALTIMETER HE FELT A UNEXPECTED 6 FT YAW TO THE LEFT. HE TRIED TO CORRECT BUT COULD NOT. HE LOOKED AT THE ENGINE RPM WHICH WAS READING ZERO ENGINE RPM AND ROTOR SPEED WAS COMING OUT OF THE GREEN. HE THEN WENT DOWN COLLECTIVE, FULL RT PEDAL AND AFT CYCLIC. HE SCANNED FOR A LANDING AREA AND AUTO ROTATED TO THE ACCIDENT SITE IN THE SALT RIVER BED. AFTER ON THE GROUND HE TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT NORMALLY. ONLY MINOR SCARCHES WAS RECEIVED BY THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR16LA057](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR16LA057), Jan 25, 2016: Enstrom 280 (N133AB), Phoenix, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination of the engine did not reveal any anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
