## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT WAS ON AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN, AND FLEW AN INSTRUMENT APPROACH TO I19. THE PILOT REPORTED ENTERING VMC CONDITIONS AND THAT HE HAD THE AIRPORT INSIGHT. AT THAT TIME HE CANCELLED HIS IFR FLIGHT PLAN AND ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. UPON BASE TO FINAL HE MADE A VERY STEEP TURN AND THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND VERTICALLY A FEW HUNDRED FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16FA095](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16FA095), Jan 26, 2016: Cirrus Design SR22T (N1703), Xenia, OH, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed while turning from the base leg to final, which resulted in the wing's critical angle-of-attack being exceeded and a subsequent aerodynamic stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
