## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RUNWAY 36 AT CENTRALIA MUNI (ENL). THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN A RIGHT TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET AGL. IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEGINNING THE TURN, THE MAIN ROTOR SLOWED AND THE AIRCRAFT MADE A "TIGHT" LEFT TURN BACK TOWARDS THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED AN AUTOROTATION TO A FIELD JUST SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED PITCHING UP JUST BEFORE CONTACTING THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND IN A TAIL LOW ATTITUDE AND SUBSEQUENTLY ROLLED OVER. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 17 FEET FROM THE INITIAL IMPACT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16LA096](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16LA096), Feb 1, 2016: Raymond Z Brown Condor (N41852), Centralia, IL, substantial damage, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The failure of the prerotator belt, which impeded the engine's timing belt and resulted in a loss of engine power at low altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
