## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

UPON LANDING, PILOT TOUCHED DOWN HARD AND BALLOONED. CROSSWIND BLEW HIM OFF COURSE SO HE PROCEEDED TO EXECUTE A GO-AROUND. AFTER INITIALLY APPLYING POWER HE SAW THAT HE WAS HEADED FOR TREES. HE IMMEDIATELY CONCLUDED THAT HE DIDN'T HAVE THE POWER OR HEIGHT TO CLEAR THE TREES SO HE RETARDED THE THROTTLE AND AIMED THE AIRCRAFT FOR A CLEAR, PLOWED FIELD. AIRCRAFT MAIN GEAR TOUCHED DOWN AND THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 YARDS BEFORE THE NOSE GEAR TOUCHED AND IMMEDIATELY GOT CAUGHT IN THE SOFT GROUND. AIRCRAFT THEN FLIPPED OVER ON ITS BACK AND CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN. PILOT EXITED UNHARMED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA123](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA123), Feb 1, 2016: Cessna 150 (N6960F), Lapeer, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's failure to achieve an adequate climb rate while turning to avoid obstacles during an aborted landing, resulting in an uncontrolled descent, collision with terrain, and a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
