## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE CFI AND THE STUDENT PILOT DID A PREFLIGHT INSPECTION AND THEN PULLED THE AIRCRAFT FORWARD FROM ITS PARKING SPOT TO THE NORTH RAMP WITH THE NOSE POINTING EAST. THEY STARTED THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE AND WERE LISTENING TO THE ATIS WITH THE RPM SET AT 800 TO 1000. THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO MOVE WITH A RIGHT TURNING TENDENCY. THE MOVEMENT WAS NOT NOTICED UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE AND THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK ANOTHER CESSNA 172 PARKED ON THE RAMP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR16LA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR16LA063), Feb 3, 2016: Cessna 172S (N499DR), San Diego, CA, minor damage. Probable cause: The failure of the flight instructor of the other airplane to maintain awareness while parked on the ramp with the engine operating, which resulted in impact with the parked airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
