## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

DURING THE LANDING PHASE, THE PILOT STATED THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN "SMOOTHLY". WITHIN SECONDS, THE AIRCRAFT SUDDENLY VEERED OFF TO THE LEFT. FULL RIGHT RUDDER WAS APPLIED WITH LITTLE RESULT. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY WITH THE RIGHT WHEEL DEPARTING THE WHEEL STRUT. THE RIGHT WING TIP WAS DAMAGED ABOUT 4 FEET INTO THE WING AND THE RIGHT WHEEL STRUT WAS DAMAGED.

AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION;

IT WAS FOUND THE DAMAGE ON THE AIRCRAFT IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO A "SMOOTH LANDING"

THE FUSELAGE JUST BEHIND THE REAR WINDOW WAS BUCKLED FROM A SEVERE DOWNWARD FORCE CONDUCIVE TO A HARD LANDING. THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL STRUT WAS BROKEN ABOUT 8" UP FROM THE WHEEL MOUNT.

THE EVENT INDICATES THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN A LEFT CRAB WHEN IT TOUCHED DOWN WITH ENOUGH VERTICAL FORCE TO BUCKLE THE FUSELAGE AND FRACTURE THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR LEG AS WELL AS BREAK THE NOSE GEAR TO THE LEFT. JUST BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL AND 8" OF GEAR STRUT DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP IN THE DIRT ALMOST 180 DEGREES FROM THE ORIGINAL DIRECTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB WPR16LA073](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/WPR16LA073), Feb 8, 2016: Cessna T206H (N562H), Billings, MT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s failure to attain a proper flare during landing in gusting wind conditions and low-level wind shear, which resulted in a hard landing and a subsequent loss of directional control.
