## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PIC STATED WHILE PRACTICING LANDINGS TO RWY 24 AT HWV AIRPORT THERE WAS EXCESSIVE CROSSWINDS TO THE RUNWAY. THE PIC ATTEMPTED A SECOND APPROACH TO LANDING ON RWY 24 WHEN THE AIRPLANE LANDED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY AND STRUCK A SNOW BANK APPROXIMATELY 15 FEET BEFORE THE PAVED SURFACE OF THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE'S NOSE GEAR AND PROPELLER STRUCK THE GROUND CAUSING THE NOSE GEAR TO COLLAPSE. THE AIRCRAFT SLID FOR APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET AND CAUGHT FIRE AS BOTH THE PIC AND PASSENGER EVACUATED THE COCKPIT. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED . THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUNSEQUENTLY DESTROYED. THE RUNWAY SHOWED EVIDENCE OF GROUND SCARING BY THE PROPELLER AND THE COLLAPSED LANDING GEAR. THE PIC COULD NOT GIVE A REASON WHY HE LANDED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY AND STATED THERE WAS NO CONTROL OR MECHANICAL ISSUES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA124), Feb 12, 2016: Cessna 152 (N47259), Shirley, NY, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate terrain clearance while landing, which resulted in a collision with a snow berm, nose gear collapse, and postimpact fire.

## Other reports on N47259 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
