## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 03/09/2016, A PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER TOOK ON A PLEASURE FLIGHT ORIGINATING FROM LAWRENCE COUNTY AIRPARK (KHTW) TO THE LOCAL AERA. THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO HTW AND THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A LANDING ON RUNWAY 26.

THE PILOT STATED THAT THE SUN WAS LOW ON THE HORIZON AND WAS IN HIS EYES, HENCEFORTH, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. THE FINAL APPROACH SPEED WAS FASTER THAN NORMAL. THIS CAUSED THE PILOT TO REDUCE SPEED WHILE OVER THE RUNWAY, RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHING DOWN APPROXIMATELY 1,000 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT BOUNCED BACK INTO THE AIR, AND THE PILOT FEARING HE WAS GOING TO STALL, LOWEREDTHE NOSE CAUSING THE NOSE GEAR TO STRIKE THE RUNWAY.

AFTER THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE RUNWAY, IT CAUSED THE NOSE GEAR TO SHEAR OFF RESULTING IN SUBSTANTUAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO A STOP APPROXIMATELY 2,000 FEET DOWN THE RUNWAY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA148](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA148), Mar 9, 2016: Remos G 3/600 (N201RQ), Chesapeake, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's unstable approach, which resulted in excessive airspeed during the touchdown, subsequent bounced landing, collapsed nose landing gear, and a runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
