## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

1200LCL AIRCRAFT N9309J LANDED AT PEARLAND (LVJ) AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 17 WITH A CROSSWIND FROM THE RIGHT. ABOUT 800 AFTER TOUCHDOWN PILOT FELT THE RIGHT WING WANTING TO LIFT UPWARDS SO HE APPLIED FULL RIGHT AILERION TO CORRECT. THE AIRCRAFT THEN WEATHER VANED INTO THE WIND AND DEPARTED THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY STRIKING A RUNWAY SIGN, A COUPLE OF RUNWAY EDGE LIGHTS, AND SHEARING OFF THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR. FOUR PAX WERE ABOARD, ALL WERE UNHARMED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA147](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA147), Mar 12, 2016: Piper PA 28 (N9309J), Pearland, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the landing roll in gusty wind conditions, which resulted in a runway excursion and a collision with an airport sign.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
