## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF FROM UNIMPROVED FARM RUNWAY WITH 80 GALLONS OF FUEL IN FUEL TANK AND 15O GALLONS OF WATER IN THE HOPPER TO TEST REPACKED SPRAY NOZZELS.

PILOT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY FIVE MINUTES INTO FLIGHT THE ENGINE LOST POWER BUT DID NOT QUIT RUNNING DURING MANUEVER FOR FIRST SPRAY RUN. NO UNUSUAL NOISES OR OIL SPRAY WAS REPORTED PRIOR TO POWER LOSS.

PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON DIRT ROAD BUT CAME DOWN APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET FROM ROAD IN CROP FIELD.

MAIN LANDING GEAR BROKE OFF AND AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN WITH THE ENGINE DISPLACED 45 DEGREES TO AIRCRAFT AND TOP WING BROKEN FREE FROM AIRCRAFT.

INSPECTED ENGINE POST ACCIDENT WITH THE FOLLOWING FINDINGS:

ALL CYLINDERS ARE INTACT AND ATTACHED TO THE CASE NORMALLY.

CARBURETOR WAS FRACTURED OFF THE MOUNT AND DESTROYED BY IMPACT, THEREFORE UNABLE TO CHECK/TEST FOR FLOAT POSITION OR CONDITION.

BOROSCOPED SUPERCHARGER AND PHYSICALLY INSPECTED AND DETERMINED THAT IT IS INTACT AND NOT SHEARED FROM DRIVE SHAFT.

AIR INTAKE FILTERS, CARBURETOR, AND SUPERCHARGER WERE FULL OF SAND FROM IMPACT, THIS ALONG WITH PROPELLER BEND AND ROTATIONAL SCORING INDICATES ENGINE WAS UNDER SOME POWER AT TIME OF IMPACT.

REMOVED SEVERAL SPARK PLUGS FOR CONDITION, PLUGS WERE INVARIOUS STATES DUE TO SALVAGE CREW LAYING ENGINE FLAT ON TRAILER, NO NEGATIVE INDICATIONS.

MAGS APPEARED NORMAL WITH MINOR IMPACT DAMAGE TO LEFT MAG.

UNABLE TO VERIFY INTERNAL ENGINE CONTINUITY DUE TO PROPELLER BEING BENT AROUND ENGINE.

CONTROL CABLE CONTINUITY APPEARED NORMAL.

NO FURTHER ACTION

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16LA130](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16LA130), Mar 14, 2016: Grumman Acft ENG Cor-Schweizer G-164 (N6654K), Myakka, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: A total loss of engine power for reasons that could not be determined because postaccident examination of the engine revealed no mechanical anomalies that would have precluded normal operation.

## Other reports on N6654K (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19800714027669A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19800714027669A), Jul 14, 1980: Gulstm G164B (N6654K), Atlanta, IL, Substantial damage. Pilot did not look field over while spraying. Hit power line.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
