## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT DEPARTED BELEN (E80) ON A PERSONAL FLIGHT TO SANTA FE (SAF). THE PILOT MADE A PRACTICE APPROACH TO RWY 2, LOW APPROACH AND WAS DIRECTED TO THE SAF VOR TO HOLD. DURING THE HOLD THE ENGINE STARTED TO SURGE AND THE PILOT NOTICED NO OIL PRESSURE. THE PILOT DID NOT THINK HE COULD MAKE IT TO THE AIRPORT AND REPORTED TO THE TOWER HE WAS GOING TO LAND ON THE I-25 FRONTAGE ROAD. HE LANDED ON THE ROAD WITHOUT INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
