## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON MARCH 24, 2016 N8260W DEPARTED AURORA AIRPORT (ARR) RUNWAY 33 ON AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT PLAN FOR KANSAS CITY DOWNTOWN AIRPORT (MKC). WHILE CLIMBING IN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES (IMC) ON A 270 DEGREE HEADING TURNING TO 230 DEGREE FOR DIRECT (MKC), THE PILOT NOTICED LOW MANIFOLD PRESSURE AND BEGAN A DESCENT FROM 10,000 FEET TO 8,000 FEET. HE THEN NOTICED LOW OIL PRESSURE. WHILE DIVERTING TO ILLINOIS VALLEY AIRPORT (VYS) PERU, IL, THE PILOT OBSERVED SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT, THE AIRCRAFT BROKE OUT OF THE CLOUDS AT APPROXIMATELY 900 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL, AND THE PILOT DECIDED TO MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY OFF AIRPORT LANDING. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND NO POST FIRE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS TOWED TO THE AIRPORT THE FOLLOWING MORNING WHEN THE GROUND WAS FROZEN.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
