## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APRIL 8, 2016, AT APPROXIMATELY 1300 CDT, N15MD, A BEECHCRAFT 58, WAS PERFORMING A PART 91 FLIGHT INTO HALLIBURTON FIELD AIRPORT (KDUC), LOCATED IN DUNCAN, OK. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED FROM KICKAPOO DOWNTOWN AIRPORT (CWC) LOCATED IN WICHITA FALLS TEXAS. FAA DESIGNATED PILOT EXAMINER (DPE) WAS PERFORMING TRANSPORT PILOT CERTIFICATE PRACTICAL EXAMINATION FOR AN APPLICANT. PRIOR TO STARTING THE GPS 17 APPROACH INTO KDUC, BOTH PILOTS HEARD A LOUD BANG AND NOTICED ENGINE OIL AND A CYLINDER CONNECTING ROD STICKING OUT OF THE LEFT ENGINE UPPER COWLING. THE DPE SECURED ENGINE AND FEATHERED THE PROPELLER. THE DPE THEN DECIDED TO FLY THE AIRCRAFT BACK TO KCWC AND DECLARED AN EMERGENCY. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY WITHOUT ANY INJURIES. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE NUMBER SIX CONNECTING ROD FAILED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
