## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT STABALIZED FOR LANDING AT 1000' WITH FLAPS DOWN AND AIRSPEED OF 85 KNOTS. DURING THE LANDING, PILOT EXPERIENCED A CROSSWIND. HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND VEERED TO THE LEFT DURING TOUCHDOWN. THE AIRCRAFT WENT OFF THE RUNWAY STRIKING TWO TREES, SEVERING THE LEFT WING AND CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT ENGINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA184](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA184), Apr 9, 2016: Dehavilland DHC 6 Twin Otter (N122PM), Fentress, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the aborted landing in gusty crosswind conditions, which resulted in a runway excursion and a collision with a tree.
