## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AT THE TIME OF LANDING WHEN THE NOSE LANDING GEAR MADE CONTACT WITH THE RUNWAY SURFACE, THE NOSE WHEEL BROKE OFF. THIS RESULTED IN THE PROPELLER MAKING CONTACT WITH GROUND. THE NOSE STRUT ALSO CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND, FORCING IT BACK AND UP INTO THE ENGINE FIREWALL. THE FIREWALL SUSTAINED MULTIPLE DEFORMATIONS AND PUNCTURED INTO THE COCKPIT AREA. THE BOTTOM FORWARD FUSELAGE AREA IS ALSO PUNCTURED AND DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16LA157](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16LA157), Apr 14, 2016: Czech Sport Piper Sport (N197PS), Mansfield, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to inspect the nose landing gear (NLG), which resulted in a crack going undetected and the subsequent separation of the NLG at the weld area during landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
