## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON APRIL 25, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 1245 LOCAL TIME, A COMMERCIAL PILOT EXERCISING COMMERCIAL PILOT PRIVILEGES MADE A HARD LANDING IN AN GRUMMAN AIRCRAFT G-164-A AT GODFREY AIRPORT (SN91) A PRIVATE AIRPORT IN MADISON, KANSAS.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FORT SCOTT, KANSAS (KFSK) MID-MORNING EN-ROUTE TO SN91 FOR A DRY AGRICULTURAL CHEMICAL PICK UP. ACCORDING TO THE AIRMAN THE APPROACH TO LANDING WAS FASTER THAN NORMAL. THERE HAD BEEN SIGNIFICANT RAIN IN THE AREA DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN FAST, THE AIRMAN PRESSED ON THE BRAKES WHICH CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT WHEELS TO DIG INTO THE DIRT AND FLIP THE AIRCRAFT UPSIDE DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A REST 177 FEET FROM TOUCHDOWN.

THE AIRMAN ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF THIS ACCIDENT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) PREVAILED AT THE AIRPORT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE GRASS AIRFIELD CONDITIONS WERE WET.

NO REPORTED MECHANICAL IRREGULARITIES PRIOR TO OR DURING THE FLIGHT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA200](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA200), Apr 25, 2016: Grumman Acft ENG Cor-Schweizer G 164 (N8872H), Madison, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's incorrect brake application during the landing roll, which resulted in a nose over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
