## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AIRCRAFT WAS DEPARTING FROM AKRON CANTON AIRPORT RUNWAY 19 WITH A SOUTHEAST CROSSWIND REPORTED AT 9 KNOTS. AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH JUST BEFORE TAKEOFF SPEED, THE PILOT STATED THE AIRCRAFT VEERED HARD TO THE LEFT. HE STATED HE PULLED BACK THE POWER AND APPLIED FULL RIGHT RUDDER BUT COULD NOT MAINTAIN RUNWAY HEADING. AS THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY IT STRUCK A TAXIWAY MARKER BOX WHICH COLLAPSED THE NOSE LANDING GEAR AND WHERE THE FIRST EVIDENCE OF A PROP STRIKE OCCURRED. THE AIRCRAFT THEN PROCEEDED TO STRIKE SEVERAL RUNWAY LIGHTS AND A PAPI LIGHT AS IT CUT THROUGH THE GRASS AND CROSSED A TAXIWAY. AT SOME POINT BOTH MAIN GEARS COLLAPSED AS THE AIRCRAFT SKIDDED SIDEWAYS AND CAME TO REST WITH THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT FACING WEST. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO BOTH LEADING EDGES AND NUMEROUS GOUGES AND PUNCTURES TO THE FUSELAGE SKINS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CEN16LA178](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CEN16LA178), May 10, 2016: Mooney M20K (N57535), Akron, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: A missing bolt in the nose landing gear assembly, which resulted in the airplane suddenly turning left and the pilot's inability to maintain directional control during a crosswind takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
