## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N3506M, A 1947 PIPER PA-12 SUPER CRUISER DEPARTED SIMSBURY AIRPORT, CT (4B9) AROUND 6:00 PM. ^MR. RALPH E. JONES, CERTIFICATE NO. 3571928, OWNER/^PILOT AND HIS SON ^TUCKER JONES^ TOOK OFF FROM 4B9 FOR A HALF HOUR SIGHTSEEING TOUR. UPON RETURN TO SIMSBURY AIRPORT N3506M ENTERED THE PATTERN ON A DOWNWIND FOR RUNWAY 3 LEFT BASE. THERE WAS A CESSNA HOLDING SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. ^MR. JONES^ COMMUNICATED TO THE CESSNA THAT N3506M WOULD LAND ON THE GRASS LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. N3506M TOUCHED DOWN LONG AND FAST IN DEEP GRASS AND BOUNCED TWICE . ^MR JONES^ DECIDED A "GO AROUND" WOULD BE BEST. APPLYING FULL THROTTLE TRYING TO TAKE OFF, N3506M DIDN'T GAIN ENOUGH ALTITUDE AND HIT A SPLIT RAIL FENCE, CROSSING OVER FLOYDVILLE ROAD IMPACTING LOW TREES ACROSS THE ROAD. N3506M TOPPED OVER THE TREES AND CAME TO REST UPSIDE DOWN IN A LOCAL NURSERY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA232](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA232), May 11, 2016: Piper PA 12 (N3506M), Simsbury, CT, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain the proper touchdown point and the airplane's subsequent impact with a fence during an attempted aborted landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
