## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT WAS CONDUCTING CHARITY FLIGHT AND HAD COMPLETED APPROXIMENTLY EIGHT LANDINGS PRIOR TO A HARD LANDING. THE HARD LANDING RESULTED IN SUBSTANTIAL TAIL DAMAGE. WINDS WERE GUSTING AND WHEN PILOT WAS IN THE FLARE, HE STATED HE LOST LIFT AND AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE RUNWAY. PILOT INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS A FLAT TIRE. UPON POST FLIGHT INSPECTION, PILOT DISCOVERED TAIL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA256](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA256), May 14, 2016: Cirrus Design SR20 (N323FT), South St Paul, MN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's excessive nose high pitch attitude, which resulted in a tail strike during the landing flare.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
