## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE TWO STATEMENTS FROM THE STUDENT AND FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR THE FOLLOWING SYNOPSIS WAS DERIVED: DURING THE TAKE-OFF ROLL THE STUDENT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND EVEN WHEN THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT HE WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE RUNWAY ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE RUNWAY APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET FROM THE APPROACH END OF THE RUNWAY. BOTH OCCUPANTS EXITED THE AIRCRAFT UNDER THEIR OWN POWER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA248](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA248), May 19, 2016: Luscombe 8 (N62925), Blue Bell, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during the takeoff roll and the flight instructor's delayed remedial action, which resulted in runway excursion, and collision with a ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
