## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

NON-INSTRUMENT RATED PILOT INADVERTENTLY CONTINUED CRUISE FLIGHT INTO DETERIORATING CONDITIONS. AFTER ENTERING IMC AND ATTEMPTING TO CLIMB AWAY FROM MOUNTAINOUS TERRAIN, SPATIAL DISORIENTATION RESULTED IN A SPIRAL DESCENT AND IMPACT. PREVAILING CONDITIONS WERE MIST, RAIN, AND LOW CEILINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16CA197](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16CA197), May 29, 2016: American Champion 7GCBC (N80RK), Warner, NH, substantial damage. Probable cause: An encounter with instrument meteorological conditions, which resulted in the pilot's spatial disorientation and a loss of airplane control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
