## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR WERE PRACTICING SIMULATED ENGINE OUT APPROACH. PILOT DECREASED THE ENGINE POWER TO IDLE IN ERROR, THIS ACTION CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO STALL JUST SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AS IT STRUCK THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY PAVEMENT. THEN THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AS WELL. AIRCRAFT SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 200 FEET ALONG THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST IN THE GRASS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. BOTH THE PILOT AND INSTRUCTOR CAME OUT OF THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT ANY INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA278](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA278), May 31, 2016: Piper PA24 (N991K), Wadsworth, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent power reduction during landing, which resulted in a runway undershoot, collision with the runway threshold, nose and right main landing gear collapse, and runway excursion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
