## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE CE-120 WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OF THE WAY DOWN FROM THE NORTH END OF RUNWAY 17. IT WAS UPSIDE DOWN WITH THE NOSE POINTING NORTH APPROXIMATELY 5 FEET FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY IN THE GRASS.

TIRE MARKS FOLLOWED THE AIRPLANE FROM THE RUNWAY THROUGH THE GRASS. BOTH WINGS WERE DAMAGED, CREASES TO THE FUSELAGE AND CREASES TO THE VERTICAL STABILIZER. THE PROPELLER WAS BENT AND THE PROPELLER HUB COVER WAS DENTED.

THE AIRPLANE WAS FLIPPED BACK OVER AND TOWED TO A HANGAR.

THE PILOT TOLD ME THAT HE STEERED OFF THE RUNWAY TO AVOID HITTING THE DEER THAT WERE ON THE RUNWAY. WHEN THE AIRPLANE HIT THE TALL GRASS IT ACTED LIKE A BRAKE AND FLIPPED THE AIRPLANE OVER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA304](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA304), Jun 10, 2016: Cessna 120 (N77216), Climax, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: An evasive maneuver during the landing roll to avoid deer on the runway, which resulted in a runway excursion and a nose over. Contributing to the accident was the lack of an airport perimeter fence.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
