## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON AN OFF RUNWAY PLATEAU WHICH SEEMED TO BE FLAT AND SMOOTH. AT TOUCHDOWN HE HIT A BUMP THEN HIT ANOTHER VERY HARD BUMP THAT BOUNCED THE AIRCRAFT VIOLENTLY. AT THAT POINT HE POWERED UP AND TOOK OFF. THE BUMP CAUSED THE RIGHT SIDE PASSENGER DOOR TO OPEN. THE PASSENGER WAS ABLE TO FORCE THE DOOR CLOSED. DUE TO THE HARD IMPACT THE PILOT DECIDED TO LAND AT GOLD KING CREEK AIRSTRIP (AK7) TO LOOK AT THE AIRCRAFT FOR OBVIOUS DAMAGE. THE PILOT SAID HE DID NOTICE THE AIRCRAFT APPEARED TO BE ?SQUATTING? MORE THAN HE REMEMBERS. HE DID NOT NOTICE ANY MAJOR DAMAGE SO HE PROCEEDED TO TAKEOFF FOR HIS HOME AIRSTRIP, SKYFLIGHT AIRSTRIP (25AA). THE INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT REVEALED DISTORTION OF THE SKIN ABOVE THE LEFT LANDING GEAR MOUNT FITTING, RIGHT SIDE DOOR DIFFICULT TO LATCH SHUT, AIRCRAFT SQUATTING, RIGHT LANDING GEAR ATTACH FITTING BENT, AND CROSS TUBING UNDER THE SEATS BADLY BENT AND DISTORTED. RIGHT WING STRUT ATTACH POINT APPEARED TO BE CRACKED ON INSPECTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC16CA031](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC16CA031), Jun 11, 2016: Maule M 6-235 (N5650J), Fairbanks, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's decision to land on terrain unsuitable for a wheel equipped airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
