## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JUNE 12, 2016 AT APPROXIMATELY 1615 LOCAL TIME, A PRIVATE PILOT, EXERCISING SPORT PILOT PRIVILEGES, WAS INVOLVED IN AN AIRCRAFT INCIDENT WHILE LANDING AN AIR BIKE RX40 SERIES AIRCRAFT AT THE COLONEL JAMES JABARA AIRPORT (KAAO), IN WICHITA KANSAS.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE BLUE SKY RANCH AND AERODROME (K35KS) IN THE LATE AFTERNOON FOR A PLEASURE FLIGHT TO AAO. ACCORDING TO THE AIRMAN, THE APPROACH TO LANDING WAS FASTER THAN NORMAL AS THE AIRMAN WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE AIRCRAFT?S MINIMAL FUEL QUANTITY; FLIGHT TIME WAS EXTENDED DUE TO REQUIRED MANEUVERING AROUND CONVECTIVE ACTIVITY. THE AIRMAN DECIDED TO LAND ON THE GRASSY AREA BETWEEN RUNWAY 18 AND TAXIWAY A, AND BETWEEN TAXIWAYS CHARLIE AND DELTA. THE LOCATION IN WHICH THE AIRMAN CHOSE TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT WAS A DRAINAGE DITCH BETWEEN THE RUNWAY AND TAXIWAY. UPON LANDING, THE AIRMAN STATED THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A HARD LANDING, BOUNCED, AND STALLED PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN IN THE GRASSY AREA LOCATED IN THE DRAINAGE DITCH.

THE AIRMAN ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES; THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (VMC) PREVAILED AT THE AIRPORT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.
