## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED KHVN AIRPORT WITH THE PILOT AND FIVE ADDITIONAL PASSENGERS. THE FLIGHT WAS BEING OPERATED CFR PART 91 AS A PERSONAL FLIGHT.

UPON ARRIVAL AT KBID, THE PILOT ENTERED A LEFT DOWNWIND FOR RUNWAY 28 AND PROCEEDED TO FLY THE PATTERN. HE PERFORMED A FLAP 40 LANDING ON RUNWAY 28 AND TOUCHED DOWN JUST PAST BRAVO, NEARLY 1800 FEET DOWN THE 2500 FOOT RUNWAY. ONCE ON THE GROUND, HE BRAKED HEAVILY LEAVING SKID MARKS FROM THE LAST 500 FEET TO THE EDGE OF THE GRASS ON THE DEPARTURE END. BOTH TIRES BLEW IN THE PROCESS.

WITH LESS THAN 20 FEET RUNWAY REMAINING, HE APPLIED POWER AND ROTATED, COLLIDING 5 FEET UP THE 8 FOOT PERIMETER FENCE 300 FEET AWAY FROM THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT PULLED THE FENCE DOWN, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SINK AND HIT THE GUARD RAIL ACROSS THE ROAD. IT THEN IMPACTED THE GROUND, CAUSING THE WINGS TO SEPARATE AND CATCH FIRE. THE MAIN BODY CONTINUED ANOTHER 10 FEET AND ROLLED TO REST ON ITS LEFT SIDE WITH THE CABIN DOOR FACING UPWARD.

EVERYONE THEN EVACUATED THE AIRCRAFT AND WERE UNINJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16CA218](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16CA218), Jun 19, 2016: Piper PA32 (N44255), Block Island, RI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to attain the proper touchdown point and the airplane’s subsequent collision with obstacles during an attempted go-around.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
