## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT OF A PIPER PA 28-140 REGISTERED AS N9836W DEPARTED RUNWAY 10R AT NORTH PERRY AIRPORT AND AT APPROXIMATELY 80 FEET EXPERIENCED A TREMBLING ENGINE ACCOMPANIED BY LOSS OF ENGINE RPM WITH SUDDEN SHUT DOWN. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO RETURN TO THE RUNWAY AND ELECTED TO LAND THE AIRCRAFT IN A GRASSY AREA ADJACENT TO RUNWAY 28L. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED ABRUPTLY RESULTING IN SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND EXITED THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ERA16LA230](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ERA16LA230), Jun 25, 2016: Piper PA28 (N9836W), Hollywood, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot’s inadequate preflight inspection of the fuel system, which resulted in a total loss of engine power due to water contamination.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
