## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

N185TG A 1978 CESSNA 185 CONFIGURED WITH AMPHIBIOUS FLOATS RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING A WATER LANDING ON HAYDEN LAKE LOCATED IN NORTH IDAHO. THE WHEELS WERE FOUND TO BE EXTENDED ON THE AIRCRAFT AFTER THE ACCIDENT.

INJURIES INCLUDED FACIAL LACERATIONS TO THE PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT MANAGED TO ESCAPE THE AIRPLANE INVERTED UNDERWATER BY HIMSELF.

MUCH MORE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE OCCURED TO THE AIRPLANE AS THE RESULT OF RECOVERY EFFORTS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA375](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA375), Jun 26, 2016: Cessna A185 (N185TG), Hayden Lake, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to retract the amphibious airplane's land-wheels prior to landing on a lake, which resulted in a nose over.

## Other reports on N185TG (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20060509007259I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20060509007259I), May 9, 2006: Cessna A185F (N185TG), Northway, AK, Minor damage. (-23) [privacy data omitted] landed in Northway on amphibioius floats with the gear up.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
