## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

VFR DAY FLIGHT DEPARTED KBOI TO DROP OFF TWO PASSENGERS AT KELY AND RETURN TO KBOI WITH TWO DIFFERENT PASSENGERS. THIS FLIGHT WAS DUAL PURPOSE. ONE OF THE PASSENGERS WAS ALSO A CERTIFICATED PILOT WORKING ON ADDING SINGLE ENGINE LAND TO HIS PILOT CERTIFICATE. THE ASSIGNED PIC WAS A CFI AND AGREED TO PROVIDE FLIGHT INSTRUCTION ENROUTE TO KELY.

AT KELY THE TRAINEE WAS THE PILOT ON THE CONTROLS: THE APPROACH WAS A LITTLE FAST AND WHEN THE FLARE TO LAND WAS INITIATED THE AIRPLANE BALLOONED AND THEN BOUNCED. THE CFI TOOK THE CONTROLS AFTER THE FIRST BOUNCE, BOUNCED AGAIN THEN LANDED. THE TRAINEE TAXIED TO THE RAMP.

I DID NOT HEAR THE TAIL HAD HIT THE RUNWAY. NOR, DID I LOOK AT THE TAIL IN ELY BEFORE RETURNING TO BOISE.

THE AIRPLANE WAS REFUELED, PASSENGERS LOADED AND THE RETURNED TO KBOI WITH THE SAME PIC.

AFTER LANDING AND SHUTDOWN BACK AT KBOI A STANDARD POST FLIGHT INSPECTION FOUND THE DAMAGE TO THE TAIL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB GAA16CA362](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/GAA16CA362), Jun 30, 2016: Cessna U206 (N9304R), Ely, NV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor's incorrect pitch control during the landing flare, which resulted in a tail strike.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
